In this class you will learn Japanese methods of battering, crumbing, and deep frying* for that delicious, lightly fried flavour associated with kara-age, tempura and katsu.

Yes, you will need to have some knowledge and experience to deep fry, but once you know, it is a simple and extremely useful skill you can apply to family meals or entertaining. You will learn to cook:
- Kara-age (marinated fried chicken). This is one of the most popular Japanese dishes for both adults and children. It is very tasty served hot and fresh, but it is also popular served cold in a bento box.
- Tempura (battered seafood or vegetables with dipping sauce). Tempura is a famous traditional Japanese dish, and the best way to enjoy different sorts of seafood and seasonable vegetables. In this class, you will also learn how to make a tempura dipping sauce.
- Katsu (crumbed, deep fried meat or seafood). In this class we will use chicken, but the principle is the same, so you can make a katsu of pork, beef, prawn, squid or other meat ingredients at home. Katsu is popularly used as a sushi roll ingredient.
